Drop a MIDI file and hear it with real instruments. Every part gets its own track, to play together or alone, and a piano roll to fix wrong notes, move them, or add your own.
How it works
Any .mid, .midi, .kar, or .rmi. A keyboard file with every part in one track is broken into one track per instrument.
Press play to hear it with General MIDI instruments. Mute a track, solo one, or give it a different sound.
Click to add a note, drag to move it, drag its end to change its length, right-click to delete. Download the edited MIDI when you're done.
Why use it
Melody, bass, chords, and drums come apart, even from a single-track keyboard file, each named after the instrument it plays.
A full General MIDI set of 128 instruments and a drum kit, playing in your browser. Pick any sound for any track.
Click to draw, drag to move, drag across to select a range, right-click to erase. Snap to the grid, quantize, copy, paste, and duplicate.
Every edit can be undone and redone, even a deleted track. Your work is saved on this device as you go.
Download for music software, or as one General MIDI file that keyboards and digital pianos play from USB. Transpose and change the tempo first.
Your MIDI files are read and played on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
MIDI Editor reads, plays, and edits your MIDI files in your browser. The instrument sounds (the GeneralUser GS SoundFont, played by the open-source SpessaSynth synthesizer) download once from this site, and your files are never uploaded. We count anonymous usage (which download format was used, the file name and size, and browser) to keep the tool improving.

Drop it above. Pick a track on the left, then click on the piano roll to add notes, drag notes to move them, drag a note's end to make it longer or shorter, and right-click to delete. Download MIDI saves your changes as a new file.
Yes, it happens on its own. A file with every part in one track, as most keyboard MIDI files have, is broken into one track per instrument. Download MIDI writes them as separate tracks that any music software opens.
Drag across empty space to draw a box around them, or Shift-click notes to add them. Then drag any of them, use the arrow keys (Shift moves an octave or a bar), or use the arrows in the toolbar. Ctrl + A selects the whole track.
Yes. Each track has M (mute) and S (solo). Solo the bass to hear it alone, or mute the melody and play it yourself.
Yes. Pick any of the 128 General MIDI sounds from the track's menu; it changes as the song plays, and it's saved in the file you download.
Space plays and pauses. Delete removes the selection. Ctrl + Z undoes, Ctrl + Shift + Z redoes. Ctrl + C, X, and V copy, cut, and paste at the playhead; Ctrl + D duplicates. Q quantizes. The arrows move notes, and Ctrl + wheel zooms.
Choose “For keyboards” to download one General MIDI file, the kind keyboards and digital pianos play from a USB stick. “Download MIDI” is the version with separate tracks, for FL Studio, Ableton, Logic, GarageBand, and MuseScore.
The free Vocal Remover splits any song into stems and writes each one as MIDI, and it opens them straight in this editor.
Yes, with no sign-up and no limits. It runs in your browser, so there's nothing to pay for.
