Photos can carry the GPS spot where they were taken. Documents can carry your name and company. We remove all of it in your browser and shows you exactly what it found.
How it works
Photos, PDFs, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, video, audio, or SVG. Mix them freely.
Every file shows what it was carrying: location, camera, authors, edit history, and more.
Same file names, same content, nothing hidden. One file or a zip of all of them.
Why use it
Phone photos often record exactly where they were taken, down to your front door. This tool removes it and tells you when it did.
Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PDF files store authors, editors, companies, and comment names. We replace them all.
We remove only the metadata. Pixels, pages, audio, and video stay exactly as they were, and rotated photos still display upright.
No black box. Each file lists the kinds of data we found and removed, so you know what you were about to share.
JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, SVG, PDF, DOCX, XLSX, PPTX, MP4, MOV, M4A, MP3, and WAV, including AI content credentials (C2PA).
A privacy tool shouldn't need your files. This one works on your device, and nothing leaves it.
Metadata Remover runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, so there's nothing for anyone to keep, leak, or train on. We count anonymous usage (file name and type, what kind of data was found, browser, and IP) to keep the tool improving. We never see your files or what's inside them.
Read exactly what we recordFAQ
Metadata is information stored inside a file alongside its content: where and when a photo was taken, which phone took it, who wrote a document, which software edited it. It travels with the file wherever you send it.
No. Files are cleaned inside your browser, so they never reach our servers. We only record anonymous usage details such as the file name, the kinds of metadata removed, and your browser; see our privacy page for the full list.
No. The content is copied across byte for byte. We keep only what's needed to display the file correctly, such as color profiles and orientation.
JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, SVG, PDF, DOCX, XLSX, PPTX, MP4, MOV, M4A, MP3, and WAV. Encrypted PDFs are left as they are.
Yes. C2PA content credentials, which many AI tools embed, are removed along with EXIF, XMP, and IPTC data.
Some do, and some keep part of it. Email, chat apps that send files as attachments, cloud links, and websites usually keep all of it.
